Taking an item out of transit

Modified on Tue, 6 May at 8:33 AM

Sometimes an item may go intransit that library staff do not want to send to another destination.

If a staff action in WorkFlows results in an item going intransit to fill a hold, it is possible to 'un-transit' it using the following steps.

  1. Open the Checkout wizard and type in or scan the User ID for a system-use card (an internal tech services card, for instance).
  2. Scan the item barcode into the Item ID field.
  3. You will be prompted to enter an override to release the item from transit. (Screenshot below). Enter the override and click 'Release Item'

  1. You will then be prompted with the “Holds Block Override” window. Important! Click “Do Not Checkout Item”.

The result will be that the item is released from transit but not checked out to your system-use user card. It will appear as if it is back on the shelf at the owning library.

Note that the next time the “List Onshelf Items” with holds report runs, this item may be selected to fill the unwanted hold. When it appears in the “Onshelf Items Wizard” staff can then click the “Unfill Hold” button to remove the item from that library’s pull list. (If that button does not display to staff, it can be enabled in the wizard properties.)
